Annual Canadian Folk Music Awards announces nominees:
J.P. CORMIER is twice recognized
HALIFAX
- November 03, 2005 - With eight award winning recordings
to his credit, and a double release on it’s way,
J.P. CORMIER has been recognized in two categories by
the Canadian Folk Music Awards (CFMA) – Instrumental
Artist of the Year (Solo) for “X8… a mandolin
collection”, and Producer of the Year for “The
Long River: A Personal Tribute to Gordon Lightfoot”.
Co-produced with manager Andre Bourgeois, and recorded
at Cormier’s own studio, “The Long River”
recently won the Folk Artist of the Year and Musician
of the Year awards from the Music Industry Association
of Nova Scotia (MIANS).
The
CFMA’s have been created “to celebrate and
promote Canadian folk music in all it’s forms.”
While the JUNO Association, the Canadian Country Music
Association (CCMA), the East Coast Music Association (ECMA),
and the Western Canadian Music Alliance (WCMA) all recognize
folk/acoustic music among their various award categories,
prior to the CFMA’s, no such music award solely
celebrated the breadth and versatility of folk music today.
The genre has a celebrated history in Canada with artists
such as Leonard Cohen, Stan Rogers, Gordon Lightfoot,
and Joni Mitchell helping to popularize the music genre
on a global scale. >>
