Pop-rock
quartet In-Flight Safety was nominated for group recording
of the year for The Coast Is Clear, songwriter, video, alternative
album and album of the year.
Cape
Breton’s Cormier performed at the news conference
with his wife, Hilda Chiasson-Cormier.
Cormier,
a multiple winner at both MIANS (Music Industry Association
of Nova Scotia, the forerunner to Music Nova Scotia) and
the ECMAs, was nominated for male recording for J.P. Cormier,
Volume Two, The Songs, entertainer of the year, folk/roots
recording and musician of the year.
He’ll
be on tour during Nova Scotia Music week performing with
Matt Anderson at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax
on Nov. 10 and at the Bicentennial Theatre in Middle Musquodobit,
but hopes to make the songwriters’ circle.
He’s
never been able to attend Nova Scotia Music Week as he’s
always working, but he’d like to be a larger part
of Nova Scotia’s awards.
""It’s
the only way non-mainstream artist have to get recognized
now the ECMAs and Junos have gotten so big,""
he said following his performance. ""MIANS is
a wonderful thing and I want to support it in any way possible.""
In-Flight
Safety was nominated for new artist two years ago, and singer-guitarist
John Mullane said it’s a cool progression. >>
