JP Cormier is home to play
With a pair of CDs ready to launch, plus a banjo recording in the works, prolific musician Cormier is back home to play

IT'S A BIG WEEK for Cheticamp multi-talent JP Cormier, bookended by a double win at the MIANS Awards on Sunday, and his premiere headlining concert at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax this Saturday at 8 p.m.

Unfortunately, he wasn't around to pick up his crystal trophies from the Music Industry Association of Nova Scotia on the weekend, due to a set of dates in the U.S. But he was driving up the Eastern seaboard with his wife and keyboardist Hilda Chaisson-Cormier when he got the news that he'd been named musician of the year, while his tribute to Canadian songwriting legend Gordon Lightfoot, The Long River, was awarded folk/traditional record of the year.

""The musician one means the most to me, just because of where it comes from. It's from MIANS, and I know I'm being judged by my peers, that means a lot,"" says Cormier, relaxing in a window seat at The Old Triangle.

""But the Lightfoot album, that took such a long time to make, that it's nice the work is appreciated. I'm sure Gord doesn't even know it's won an award, I've got to call him up and tell him."" >> more
