Argosy CD Review It is clear to see why J.P. Cormier has been nominated for instrumental artist of the year at the near approaching East Coast Music Awards. Well known and spoken highly of by every Cape Bretoner I have spoken to, Cormier's album Heart & Soul turned out to be a CD that rarely leaves my stereo. I think I'll even be searching for his new album coming out this year and pick up his previous ones such as Return to the Cape or Another Morning. Although J.P. Cormier has spent time travelling the United States playing for artists such as Travis Tritt and Mark O'Connor, he prefers to spend his time in Cape Breton where he released Heart & Soul, his first instrumental album in approximately five years. The album is comprised mostly of contemporary fiddle music with piano and other instrument accompaniments by Hilda Chiasson-Cormier, Gelas Larade, Rene Lefort and Wayne Robichaud. Heart & Soul is focused on Cormier's talent with the fiddle, which he began playing at the age of 16, as well as his knowledge of the violin, sic and 12 string guitars, bass, banjo, mandolin, percussion and synthesiser. The songs "Christie Married a Frenchman" and "May I Have This Dance" feature J.P. on the piano. |
